District seeks input for strategic plan

For Oxford Schools strategic planning is like a puzzle. It has many pieces.
One of those key pieces is input from teachers, staff, students, parents and community, which is why the district is asking everyone to participated in the strategic planning surveys.
Community/parent engagement surveys can be found at tinyurl.com/oxfordparents, Student engagement for grades 6-12 surveys can be found at tinyurl.com/oxfordstudents.
‘We welcome the public’s, parents? and students? input and hope they will help us create the perfect visioning process (for) Oxford,? said Superintendent Tim Throne.
Throne said the public may not be aware, but the district has been actively engaged in the strategic planning process for awhile and it took steps in the spring of 2015 to begin a new process.
Some of the other puzzle pieces that are part of the strategic visioning process are innovation, human capital, finance and community.
When it comes to innovation, Throne said ‘Oxford Schools strives to remain at the forefront of education.?
‘Our teachers are always thinking of new and improved ways to reach students,? he said. ‘We also have teams of people who are continually creating and updating our district improvement plan and individual school improvement plans.?
When it comes to interacting with the community, Throne said the district has worked hard to get community engagement on things through monthly superintendent office hours and annual parent, student, staff and community surveys.
The district has also sought to better serve the community through increased communication via the school system’s new website.
Once the surveys are complete, Throne said over the course of the next several months, they will gather the data, hold board and administrative workshops, and identify the most important academic goals, at which point, all areas of the district will be aligned to facilitate their achievement.
‘A strategic visioning process builds upon the accomplishments of the past, acts upon opportunities today, enables a sustaining culture and identifies strategic goals,? Throne said. ‘We want to make sure all areas (of Oxford Schools) support those goals and we adapt structures and processes for optimal learning and growth both financially and academically.?
