O’Maras, Jones lead GHS girls squad to win at invite

The Goodrich girls cross country team passed another test at the Holly Invitational Sept. 13.
The Martians captured the Division 3 portion of the competition with 64 points. Hillsdale finished second (79), while Jackson Lumen Christi took third (102).
Individually, Martian runners captured the fourth through sixth places at the invite. Freshman Kayla O’Mara finished fourth with a time of 18:58, while sister Kaitlin finished fifth (19:09) and junior Janee Jones sixth (19:14).
Other Goodrich competitors were Samantha Minkler (18th, 21:01), Kelsey Meyers (31st, 21:47), Natalie Cook (37th, 22:04), and Molly Downer (66th, 23:48)
Coach John Shaw said he is pleased with how Cook has progressed since the start of the season. “She’s really improved — she was running in the 24’s (minutes) a few weeks ago,” he said.
Goodrich competed at the Michigan State University Invitational in East Lansing Friday, Sept. 19. They return to action Sept. 23 against Byron and Mt. Morris at 4:30 p.m.
