Charles James Mitchell passed September 8, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 and a lifelong resident of Oxford.
He is survived by his beloved wife Aloha (French). Revered father of Linda (Mark ) Schafrick, Nancy (Steven) Thumser , Janice (Bill) Wedge, and Charles Mitchell Jr. Grandchildren Zachary, Erich, Emily, Jeremy, Jeffery, Rachel, Randy, Amber, Charlie, and Hunter.
A graduate of Oxford High School in 1944, “Chuck” graduated from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 1949.
He was the owner of Mitchell’s Drug Store in Oxford until he sold it to spend more time with his family. He then worked as a pharmacist at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital until retirement.
He continued to work part-time at the Pine Knob Pharmacy in Clarkston for several more years.
Chuck was a member of the Oxford Congregational Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.
He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed vacationing in northern Michigan and Canada with his family. A member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, his first love was flying.
He spent much of his retirement building an airplane, a replica of the famed “Mr. Mulligan” racing plane.
Funeral was from Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W. Burdick, Oxford, on Monday, Sept. 12.
Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery in Oxford.
