Looking for a laugh?
Christ the King Church (1550 W. Drahner Rd.) will host a “Comedy Date Night” event for couples on Sept. 24 from 7-9 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
Featured at the event will be husband/wife stand-up comedy duo Amy Barnes and Jerry Miner.
The pair will explore the humor in all that is marriage and family, including the hilarious reasons marriage should be considered “cool” again.
Barnes started her stand-up career in Seattle, Washington. Later, she picked up a guitar and added original songs to the mix, landing her a spot in the New Faces Show at the Montreal Comedy Festival.
She has also appeared on Premium Blend and Comic Remix on Comedy Central and has held a recurring role on the National Lampoon network.
Miner began his comedy career as a doorman at the Laugh Stop in Newport Beach, California.
Since then, Miner has made over 20 television appearances on ESPN, HBO, NBC, Fox, Comedy Central, and MTV, and has written for many well-known comedians, including Jay Leno, Anthony Clark and Kevin Pollak.

“We want people to have an entertaining evening,” said CTK Associate Pastor Larry Hayward. “This (event) will have good clean comedy. And, when we laugh at ourselves, there’s usually a little bit of truth that gets in… so hopefully everybody that comes can pick up one thing that they could apply in their own relationships.”
According to Hayward, this event was organized with more than just CTK members in mind.
“It’s absolutely open to the public. We’re reaching out and trying to invite everyone, especially non-church people. It’s a non-threatening event at a church and it’s not going to be preachy,” said Hayward.
Tickets are $10 to preorder and $15 at the door. Group discounts will also be available, with a package deal of 12 tickets for $100.
Free childcare will be provided at the show with pre-registration. The event will also include door prizes and light snacks.
To order tickets, pre-register for childcare or for more information, call the Christ the King office at (248) 628-0038.
