Sometimes the breaks just do not go your way.

The Oxford Wildcat football team had the issue on Friday in their 35-20 loss to the visiting Warriors of Southfield Arts & Technology. The loss put the Wildcats at 4-4 overall and 2-4 in league play.

This was a difficult game for the Wildcats as they found themselves in control with their ground game for much of the first half.

Unlike most of their games this season the Wildcats were able to keep the game close.

Despite getting beat on a two big plays for scores, Oxford took a 17-14 lead into the halftime break.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats they were not able to build on that lead in the second half, which has been their stronger half this season.

The Warriors continued to demonstrate their big play ability through the air and on the ground.

Southfield A & T was able to pull away as the second half progressed to secure their victory and a share of the OAA Red Division.

Senior Ethan Williams carried the ball 47 times for 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Josh Allen had three catches for 61 yards.

The Wildcats would control the tempo and ran 74 plays total as opposed to the 40 plays for the visitors.

The Wildcats were unable to overcome their own mistakes – missed tackles, botched snaps, penalties – to pull out a much-needed win against a divisional foe.

Oxford has one game remaining during the regular season this upcoming Friday at 7 p.m. against Farmington Hills Harrison.

Each team needs a win to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.
