Swim team reigns supreme at dual meet

Oxford’s Lady Wildcats beat Troy Athens High with a final score of 129 – 57 at a dual meet October 27.

The team is now 3-1 overall in the Oxford Athletics Association (OAA).

The results were as follows:

In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of sophomore Claire Alexander, junior Victoria Mc Clenaghan, junior Rachel Commons, and freshman Ashlee Weltyk took first with a time of 2:01.70. Oxford’s B Relay of Emily Vican, Kaleigh Rogers, Danielle Kemp, and Hannah Schonfeld placed third.

In the 200 Freestyle, Oxford swept the event led by Freshman Sabrina Kurk with a time of 2:12.54. Cailin Griffith and Kemp came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the 200 Individual Medley, Freshman Ashlee Weltyk took first with a time of 2:24.87. Mc Clenaghan came in third and Vican came in fourth. Mc Clenaghan’s time put her 10th on the OHS All-Time Top Ten List.

In the 50 Freestyle, Alexander came in second with a time of 27.26. Christina Boydston came in fourth.

In the Diving portion, sophomore Keira Veltigian placed first with a score of 207.85. Emma Moore took third.

In the 100 Butterfly, Commons touched first with a time of 1:07.84. Vican finished third with an improved time which put her 10th on the All-Time Top Ten List.

In the 100 Freestyle, Sophomore Claire Alexander finished first with a season-best time of 59.00. This is a personal best time for Alexander and it ties her for 5th on the All-Time Top Ten List. Boydston took second and Kaleigh Rogers took third.

In the 500 Freestyle, Freshman Sabrina Kurk claimed her second event of the night with a time of 5:58.39. Griffith finished second and Caitlyn Geda placed fourth.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Boydston, Mc Clenaghan, Veltigian, and Kurk took first with a time of 1:53.97. Oxford’s B Relay of Rogers,

Rachael Baker, Geda, and Griffith finished in third place.

In the100 Backstroke, Weltyk claimed her second first place finish of the night with a season-best time of 1:03.74. This time moves her up to second on the All-Time Top Ten List. Paige Hodder took third and Izzy Frechette took fourth place.

In the100 Breaststroke, Mc Clenaghan finished second with a season-best time of 1:18.23. Rogers came in third.

In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Commons, Alexander, Kurk, and Weltyk came in first with a time of 4:02.33. Oxford’s B Relay of Kemp, Schonfeld, Vican, and Boydston took second place.

Wednesday, November 2 at 5 p.m., Oxford will host the Blue Division League Meet at home, where the team will face Stoney Creek in the OAA Championship swimming preliminaries.
