The Lady Cats varsity basketball team sits at 1-1-0 overall, after the team won 49-37 in a match against Armada Monday evening.

Head Varsity Coach Rachel Bryer is confident her team will continue on the path to sucess this season, as the 11-athlete team has been demonstrating great talent.

Bryer, who was appointed to the position earlier this year, said these players consistently work together to grow and thwart the competition.

“We take pride in our defense every possession, and push the ball on offense. My team is also very unselfish, sharing the ball and working as one unit,” said Bryer.

Despite the team’s strengths, Bryer said Oxford’s Lady Wildcats will remain humble and continue striving to improve in every aspect of the game.

“Our work is never done and we will never be satisfied… Our biggest goals this season are to improve every day by taking pride in all we do, pushing our limits, and beating expectations,” Bryer said.

Bryer named senior returning starters Madelyn Morris and Monae Evans among the team’s top-players. “They understand what it takes to be successful because they have had the experience on the varsity (team) last year,” said Bryer. She also added she is looking forward to seeing the performance of senior captains Madison Dinges and Madeline Gordon. “(They) bring the drive and determination that we need on a daily basis.”

According to Bryer, the team trained hard over the summer and is ready to put their skills to the test.

“Overall, I am excited to get this season started… We are ready to see how much we have improved since last year,” Bryer said.

The team will take the court Monday, December 12 at 7 p.m. as they go up against Rochester Adams at the Rochester Adams High gymnasium (3200 W. Tienken Rd.)
