The Oxford Wildcats swim team had a difficult meet against rival neighbors, the Lake Orion Dragons.
As the Dragons were moved down from their OAA standing in the red division last season and the Wildcats traveled up to their current standing in the white division from last season, Head Coach Jackie Rank said the team knew it would be a tough meet going in. “As with any meet, we noticed many things that can be improved, but overall we were pleased with the boy’s performance and we know this will be a great stepping off point for the season,” said Head Coach Jackie Rank.
In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Sereno, Grove, Warren, and Powers took second with a time of 1:50.83.
In the 200 Freestyle, freshman Carter Pollard finished fourth with a time of 2:02.69, a score which starts him off on Oxford High’s All-Time Top Ten List. Senior Trenton Sabo claimed fifth place for Oxford.
In the 200 Individual Medley, junior Garrett Warren came in first with a time of 2:12.94. Senior Lucas Sereno took fourth for Oxford.
In the 50 Freestyle, junior Captain Brandon Powers touched first with a finish time of 23.47, putting him 7th on the All-Time Top Ten List. Senior Captain Travis Butler finished fifth for Oxford.
In the diving portion, Junior Mitchell Mulligan came in 3rd with a score of 175.70. Freshman Max Jenson took 5th place for Oxford with a score that starts his career off in 9th on the All-Time Top Ten List.
In the 100 Butterfly, Garrett Warren claimed his second first place finish of the night with a time of 57.33. Carter Pollard and senior Jonah Grove finished third and fifth respectively. Carter Pollard’s time puts him ninth on the All-Time Top Ten List
In the 100 Freestyle, Brandon Powers came in third with a time of 53.92. Michael Scepka took fifth place for Oxford.
In the 500 Freestyle, Senior Bradlee Weltyk touched fourth with a time of 6:25.56. Freshman Cameron Mumbrue claimed fifth for Oxford.
In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Butler, Grove, Scepka, and Pollard finished second with a time of 1:39.81.
In the 100 Backstroke, Lucas Sereno came in second with a time of 1:01.73. Travis Butler came in fourth for Oxford.
In the 100 Breaststroke, Jonah Grove took third for Oxford with a time of 1:14.18. Touching close behind him was Michael Scepka in fourth place.
In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Warren, Sereno, Pollard, and Powers finished second with a time of 3:37.09.
Next week, the team will take on Stoney Creek High School, Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at home.
