A piece of Oxford’s industrial history is going to come tumbling to the ground this week.
The old Oxford Concrete plant, located in the village’s industrial area off S. Glaspie St., is slated for demolition.
The property was once owned by Nick Ritz, who purchased it in the early 1970s and renovated the plant.
Oxford Concrete operated until around 2010.
The property was sold to Addison resident Mark Smith in late December 2015.
Smith is currently renting two-thirds of the site to Oakland Mobile Marine for boat storage.
Given there’s “not much demand for concrete plants,” Smith said he decided trying to resurrect the facility and make it functional again was just not a good investment.
