Both Wildcat bowling teams took second place at the MHSAA Team Regionals Feb. 24.

The Cats played against a tough field that day, including Davison, Clarkston, Waterford Kettering, North Farmington, and Walled lake Central.

The team bowled well in the six baker games, ending up second to Clarkston 1189 to 1139.

The Wildcats also shot solid games of 952 and 914 in games 1 and 2, finding themselves 82 pins behind Clarkston going into the last game.

The team rallied in game 3 to shoot a tournament high 1040, but fell 14 pins short of winning its third regional. Ultimately, the team qualified for its fourth-straight state finals, which will be held March 3-4 at Sterling Lanes (33200 Schoenherr Rd., Sterling Heights).

During the singles qualifying match held Feb. 25, Tanner Cartner was the only boy to advance.

The Lady Wildcat bowlers also took second-place at the MHSAA Team Regionals.

The Wildcat girls had their sights set on qualifying for the state finals when they traveled to 300 Bowl in Waterford on Friday February 24th. The competition was strong as the girls competed with highly ranked teams like Davison, Lake Orion, Grand Blanc, Lakeland and Waterford Mott.

The girls bowled well early in bakers, but ended up coming out of the six baker games in fifth place. The girls bounced back, rallying to bowl team games of 908, 827 and 821 to secure the third position and qualify for the state finals for the second-straight year.

During the singles qualifying match, Megan Kessler finished fifth, Claire Sandstrom finished sixth and Megan Armbruster finished in the ninth spot. The Lady Wildcats also qualified for the March 3-4 state finals.

“The bowlers did a great job,” said Head Coach J.R. Lafnear. “I don’t remember a group that competed has hard as this group did. We are thrilled to get out of this tough region and go back to the state finals with both teams. We also are very proud of the four bowlers that got out of here in singles, as well. We also had three others that were within a few pins of qualifying in singles.”
