Local insurance agent John Mathers, of Mathers Insurance, 4209 Sashabaw Road, Waterford, is offering up to three $500 scholarships for high school graduates or current college students to continue their education.
“I’m excited to be able to offer this,” Mathers said. “I am just trying to make a little difference in our little corner of the world.”
The scholarships are open to the children or grandchildren of his insurance clients. Post high school students have until May 31, 2017 to submit their applications.
The scholarships will be awarded by June 30 of this year. According to Mathers’ website here are the eligibility requirements:
The applicant must be a natural child, stepchild, legally adopted child or foster care child or grandchild of a current insurance client of John Mathers maintaining an active policy; and the applicant must be accepted to or enrolled in a university, community college, technical school or bible school/seminary.

With their completed application, candidates should include the following:
A one page “About Me Resume” giving an overview of who you are and what you have accomplished. Include anything you think the scholarship selection committee should know and consider.
Also, in no more than 500 words answer, “Why is it important to get a college education with little or no debt?” and “Who do you want to be and what do you want to accomplish with your life?”
