Playing for the Troy Lady Sting in the 14U Tier 2 Knight 1 Division of the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League, several local girls won their league championship and had the opportunity to compete at the USA Hockey Girls Tier 2 National Championship Tournament.
The local Troy Lady Sting players include Sydnee Francek-#87 (Lake Orion-Oakview Middle School), Alyssa Exline-#20 and Lauren Reiss-#23 (Clarkston Junior High School), Jordan Goik-#12 (Oxford Middle School), Kylie Rancilio-#77 (Oxford-St. Joseph School Lake Orion), and were coached by Dave Bergen (Memphis, MI).
Each player was an important contributor to their team, which captured the Little Caesars U14 Tier 2 Knight 1 Division league championship after going undefeated in league play.
The celebration had added excitement as the championship was captured in mid-February, while playing an outdoor night game at Clark Park in Detroit with the Ambassador Bridge illuminated in the background.
The league in which the Troy Lady Sting played in was made up of teams from Macomb, Grosse Pointe, Ann Arbor, and Kensington Valley.
Francek, Exline, Reiss, Goik, and Rancilio also had the opportunity to compete in the USA Hockey Girls Tier 2 National Championship Tournament as the host team as the tournament took place at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, MI. In addition to the Troy Lady Sting, the three pools included 11 teams from around the country.
In addition to winning their Little Caesars league championship and competing at USA Hockey Girls Nationals, the team also played in the Bauer Invitational Tournament in Metro Detroit, the Halloween Hat Trick Tournament in Grand Rapids, the Irish South Bend Cup at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, as well as the Hawkeye Tournament in Hamilton, Ontario.
