Addison okays $15K for new server

Addison Township officials voted unanimously to spend up to $15,000 on the installation of an information technology server system.

Last week, the township board voted 7-0 to award the project to the Bath-based I.T. Right for the bid amount of $12,435.

I.T. Right submitted the lowest of the two bids received. The opposing bid was $18,861 from C-Net Systems.

The move is expected by board members to help increase the speed and security of the township’s server.

The first year of the service agreement with the system, installation and an internet “booster,” came to a combined total of $12,435, not to exceed total first year expenditure of $15,000.

Included in the agreement was also a Wi-Fi booster, for $482, which would include the installation of a solid state hard drive, which would boost the speed of the server and allow for higher reliability, as well as increase the speed of the Wi-Fi signal delivered to the township hall’s community room. All supporting services will also be provided by I.T. Right throughout the contract.

To help secure the township’s retention of files in case of an emergency Paul Trinka, representing I.T. Right, assured the board that all files stored on the new server will be backed up every night.

The installation is likely to begin within the next few weeks after office hours and is not expected to cause any interruptions to township services, according to Treasurer Lori Fisher.
