Playing on Sundays seems to agree with the Oxford lacrosse players.
The Wildcat lacrosse program won three games Sunday, April 30, including a convincing 10-6 victory over visiting Crown Point, Indiana.
“I thought the kids played well tonight considering we are out three starters in Gavin Fritz, Garrett Stuk, Johnathan Robb,” said Head Coach Greg Normand. “We played hard, jockeyed some positions around and really played smart and that’s something new for us. We’re really beginning to settle down when (we’re) hit with a bit of adversity. I am happy that we are growing.”
Oxford was led by a pair of hat tricks with Spencer Petoskey and Dryden Calcaterra notching three goals for the winners. Robert Rodriguez, Ethan Cutler, Sam Urban and Logan Vachon score single goals for the winners.
The Wildcats found themselves on the end of an ugly first quarter, which Crown Point dominated and outscored Oxford 3-0. But the team regrouped after the first quarter and came out and rolled accounting for eight unanswered goals over the next period and a half.
Sophomore goaltender Geo DeBlasi knocked down 17 shots, while giving up six goals and continues to lead the defensive resurgence.
Oxford’s overall record is now 8-3.
On April 27, the team beat Stoney Creek with a 12-1 score. Oxford was led by Garrett Stuk and Spencer Petoskey that night.
Sam Urban had two goals for the winners and Oxford found balanced scoring from Max Parsons, Drew Galley, Dryden Calcaterra and Logan Vachon. Gavin Fritz had three assists, while Collin Grzanka and Max Parsons had two each.
On Tuesday, April 25, the Wildcats fell short to Notre Dame with a 10-6 score.
Spencer Petoskey and Matt Pullman each had two goals, while Sam Urban and Garrett Stuk added a single goal that night.
The Wildcats lost the ground ball battle 28-16 and the face-off scrum 6-14.
