Wildcats go 2-2 on the diamond

The Wildcats baseball team took both a win and a loss in a doubleheader against rival Lake Orion on Monday, May 8.

The team took a huge loss in the first game, losing 11-0.

Lake Orion’s pitcher threw a perfect game. Mario Scribner took the loss in the game.

Oxford bounced back in the second game, evening the series with a 6-4 win.

Ben Gingell went five strong innings, striking out five batters and got the win.

Connor Romine picked up the save, throwing two innings.

The offense was led by Brandon Barrows, Gage Warzecha and Braun Mayette, each collecting two hits. Ben Nuss, Gingell and Justin Allen each added a hit.

On Wednesday, May 3, the Wildcats played a doubleheader against Rochester Adams. Oxford won the first game 2-1.

The performance of Mario Scribner and Connor Romine led the Cats to their victory.

Scribner went five innings, striking out four batters and only allowing one earned run.

Romine came in for a two-inning save striking out three Highlander hitters.

Anthony D’alessandro, Ben Gingell, Josh Allen, Braun Mayete and Ben Nuss each collected one hit in the game. Nuss and Gingell each had one RBI.

In second game, the Wildcats baseball team fell to Rochester Adams with a 5-1 score.

A scoreless game going into the fifth inning, Oxford plated one run in the top of the inning off the bat of Justin Allen, who got a RBI on the play.

Adams responded by scoring five runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

Oxford was unable to recover after that inning. Braun Mayette had the only hit for the Wildcats. Gingell battled on the mound, but took the loss.

The team is now 14-9 overall.

On Wednesday, May 10, the Cats will once again face Lake Orion at 4:30 p.m. on their home diamond.
