A 14-year-old Oxford High School student was suspended for allegedly sharing posts on social media regarding school shootings.
Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were notified of the situation on May 5 at 9:01 a.m. after OHS officials became aware of two posts on Instagram, both referencing school shooters, which had allegedly been shared by this student.
The student, a Brandon Township resident, had allegedly shared one photo with the words, “You can’t be a victim of a school shooting if you’re the school shooter” with a photo of a man making “a thinking gesture” by pointing his index finger to his temple, according to the sheriff’s report.
The second photo shared had the words, “When the school shooter finds you under the table,” with a picture of the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants sitting at a computer desk, according to the report.
When the teen spoke to the OHS security officer, he said, according to the report, he “only meant” for the posts to be “a joke.”
“He thought they were funny,” the report stated.
The report goes on to state that the teen claimed he did not create the posts, he only shared them, and he has “never thought of doing a shooting at the school.”
“(He) stated he strictly meant it in a humorous way and meant no harm by it,” the report stated.
The teen’s 43-year-old mother told deputies that her son “has not demonstrated any threatening or strange behavior” and they do not have any guns or weapons in their home. In the report, she characterized him as “a good, normal kid.”

(He) did not deserve this. OHS has been working hard on the issue of suicide by asking us to find our “13 reasons why not” yet they take away the things we are passionate about. Building an account with a large fan base is a hard thing to do and it saddens me that they took this away from Him.
@Ohs student – are you kidding me? Posting about shooting up a school is very serious. He is lucky he didn’t get a much worse punishment. It’s a sad state that kids are so concerned with getting a “large fan base” that they would do something as idiotic as this. And his mother is clueless and should be monitoring his social media. She should be very worried about her son doing something like this and not thinking he would be questioned by police. Just plain stupid.
He was a good kid it was not fair for him.
