Oxford students looking to get a step ahead in their preparation for college are invited to take a free full-length SAT practice exam at the Oxford Public Library (530 Pontiac St.) on Saturday, September 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The practice test will be provided by Rochester-based tutoring service, Above Grade Level In-Home Tutoring.
The timed-practice test assesses students’ knowledge of reading, writing and language, and math and follows the same procedure as an actual SAT test, according to Bruce Moore of Above Grade Level.
“We realize that not everybody has an open checkbook and can spend thousands of dollars preparing for the SAT, so we go over their options and allow the students to test at the library to help them better prepare for it,” Moore said. “It’s the exact same amount of questions and we give them the exact same amount of time as if they were to go into the SAT test in reality and very representative of the types of questions they would see on the actual SAT exam.”
Students should bring a #2 pencil and a graphing calculator to the practice exam.
A follow-up meeting after the practice exam, which will be held Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. will offer students the chance to learn their results and receive tips, tricks and personalized feedback on how they can improve their scores next time.
“We use these practice tests as a way to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses. Our class is designed specifically to give them those techniques to achieve their highest score. It’s about developing those skills and techniques,” Moore added.
For further practice, SAT sample tests are also available for check-out at the library, according to OPL Head of Teen Services Rachael Quinn.
To register for the practice test, call (248) 628-3034 or visit the library’s website at miopl.org. To learn more about Above Grade Level In-Home Tutoring and the services it offers, visit abovegradelevel.com.
