To the Qualified Electors of the Township of Addison
In the Oxford School District.
Notice is hereby given that an Election will be held in Addison Township, County of Oakland on Tuesday, November 7, 2017,from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Oxford School District only. The election will be conducted in Precincts #1 and #2 of the Township of Addison for the purpose of voting on the following proposals at the following locations and all polling locations are accessible for voters with disabilities:
Precinct 1: Rowland Hall, 23 E. Elmwood Rd, Leonard, MI 48367
Precinct 2: Addison Township Offices, 1440 Rochester Rd, Leonard, MI 48367
For assistance in determining your precinct, the accessibility of the polling place locations, and the availability of voting instructions in alternative formats such as audio and Braille, please contact the Addison Township Clerk. For determining your precinct location and to view your sample ballot you may also search at Michigan Voter Information Center www.mi.gov/vote.
The following summary for the proposals:
Oxford Community Schools (Precincts 1and 2)
I. BONDING PROPOSAL
Shall Oxford Community Schools, Oakland and Lapeer Counties, Michigan, borrow the sum of not to exceed Twenty-Eight Million Two Hundred Eighty Thousand Dollars ($28,280,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds therefor, in one or more series, for the purpose of: remodeling, furnishing and refurnishing and equipping and re-equipping school buildings; purchasing school buses; and developing and improving playgrounds, parking areas and sites?
The estimated millage that will be levied for the proposed bonds in 2018, under current law, is 0.39 mill ($0.39 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a 0.00 mill net increase over the prior year’s levy. The maximum number of years the bonds of any series may be outstanding, exclusive of any refunding, is thirty (30) years. The estimated simple average annual millage anticipated to be required to retire this bond debt is 1.01 mills ($1.01 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation).
II. SINKING FUND MILLAGE PROPOSAL
Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property in Oxford Community Schools, Oakland and Lapeer Counties, Michigan, be increased by and the board of education be authorized to levy not to exceed .75 mill ($0.75 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 5 years, 2018 to 2022, inclusive, to create a sinking fund for the construction or repair of school buildings, for school security improvements, for the acquisition or upgrading of technology and for all other purposes authorized by law; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2018 is approximately $801,000?
Persons qualifying and would like to obtain an absentee ballot may do so by contacting Pauline Bennett, the Addison Township Clerk. The Clerk will also be available in the Clerk’s Office on the Saturday preceding the election. OnNovember 4, 2017, the Clerk’s office will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and which is the deadline for requesting an absentee ballot, which may be mailed. You may vote absentee for one of the following reasons: If you are unable to attend the polls without assistance; are 60 years of age or older; expect to be absent from the Township for the entire time the polls are open on election day; are in jail, awaiting arraignment or trial; have been assigned to work as a precinct inspector in a precinct other than where you were registered; or are unable to attend the polls because of religious beliefs.
