Addison approves 4 percent pay raises for officials, employees

The approval of employee wages was one of the highlights of a recent Addison Township board discussion.

While giving an introduction to the 2018-19 budget at its Jan.16 township board meeting, Supervisor Bruce Pearson noted that he believes the budget is ‘in pretty good shape.’

“I want to let everyone know that we’re 3/4 of the way through the year and we’ve only spent 50 percent of our budget for this current year,” said Pearson. “We’re doing exceptionally well, as we have for the last nine years. A lot of that has to do with donations (from the community during township projects).”

As far as changes in the general fund go, Pearson recommended increasing the wages of township officials and employees by 4 percent.

The Addison Township board unanimously approved six resolutions Tuesday night, setting the supervisor, clerk and treasurer’s annual salaries including benefits at $36,655.06 each, which represents a 4 percent increase.

Board members also unanimously approved a resolution setting the trustees’ pay at $138.58 for regular meetings, $105 for special meetings, $155 for combined sessions, and $80 for board approved or appointed meetings. These figures represented 4 percent increases.

The 4 percent wage increase was also approved for fire department personnel and township staff.

The fire department office manager will also receive a $0.73 increase in addition to the 4 percent increase to bring the position in line with the full-time office staff at the township.

State law requires Addison, a general law township, pass resolutions setting the elected officials’ salaries for the upcoming fiscal year at least 30 days prior to the township’s public hearing.

The township board voted Monday to hold this year’s public hearing for proposed budget on Monday, February 12 at 6 p.m. inside the Addison Township Hall, located at 1440 Rochester Rd. in Lakeville.
