Council OKs $35K SUV for police dept.

Last week, the Oxford Village Council voted 5-0 to approve the $35,314 purchase a 2018 Chevy Tahoe as a new patrol vehicle for the police department.

The village is buying it from Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids.

“There’s a vehicle already there (on the lot), so we wouldn’t have to wait (for delivery),” said Police Chief Mike Solwold.

Berger Chevrolet was the lowest of three bids. The other two were $35,667 from Hank Graff Chevrolet in Davison and $47,887 from Wally Edgar Chevrolet in Orion Township.

In its motion, council also approved spending $11,990 to have the Troy-based Cynergy Wireless outfit the Tahoe for police work. The company has a history of outfitting vehicles for the village agency.

“I’ve had no problem with Cynergy. I stand by their work,” Solwold told council. “I would like to continue with Cynergy.”

Cynergy was the lowest of the three bids obtained.

The other two bids were $12,871 from Oakland County and $14,761 from the Troy Department of Public Works.

This will be the first SUV for the village police. Currently, the fleet consists of two Ford Crown Victorias (a 2008 with 114,000 miles and a 2009 with 124,000 miles), a 2012 Chevy Impala with 73,000 miles and two Dodge Chargers, a 2013 with 77,000 miles and a 2015 with 35,000 miles.
