Oxford High School (OHS) senior Hannah Vachon made her commitment to college sports official during a March 16 letter of intent signing ceremony.
Vachon signed to play softball for the University of St. Francis located in Joliet, Illinois.
Vachon has played on the OHS varsity softball team since her freshman year and is now looking forward to playing her last season as a Wildcat in the spring.
Vachon is a three-time all-league and all-district honoree.
Throughout the first two years of her high school career, she posted an 18-6 record in the circle with 10 shutouts, two no-hitters and one perfect game.
Head Coach Kenny Allen said he and the team will be rooting for Vachon’s continued success as she moves on to college.
“Her work ethic stands out for sure. Her mom and her dad have made a lot of sacrifices in order to help her achieve her goals and today we’re seeing the fruit of that and of her hard work today,” Allen said. “It’s pretty exciting. I hope she’ll continue to work hard, not just in softball but in her studies and in her career.”
Vachon, who plans to become a special education teacher, said while she is looking forward to her future, she will never forget the team that helped shape her into the successful athlete she’s become.
“I’ll really miss the girls here and, of course, my coaches. I’m really proud of how I’ve excelled as a player and of how I’ve been playing for all four years. I’ve loved every minute of it,” Vachon said.
