Addison Township’s public library will celebrate a true milestone next week and the public is invited to join in the festivities.

A 40th anniversary party for the community institution will be held on Tuesday, April 17 from 5-7 p.m. The library is located at 1400 Rochester Rd. in Lakeville.

Past and present library employees, board members, supporters and community members are “welcome to share their memories,” and old photographs if they have any, beginning at 6 p.m., according to Library Director Jaema Berman.

“It’s a chance to reflect on all our accomplishments, our past, our present and our future,” she said.

A harpist will perform from 5-6 p.m. There will be food, beverages and a special cake baked by library employee Gery McBride.

“She’s a really talented cake-maker,” Berman said.

Berman, who’s served as director since 2011, wants the public to know she’s “really grateful for all the support” the library’s received “throughout the years.”

“The library is the heart of this community,” she said. “It’s an incredible place because of the patrons and the staff, and the love that everyone shows this library.”

“The library loves the community, too,” Berman noted. “It’s a two-way love fest. It just makes (this) a wonderful place to be every day.”

Folks planning to attend the party are asked to please RSVP by calling the library at (248) 628-7180. “We want to know how many people to expect,” Berman said.

Those attending the party are invited to stay for a regular meeting of the library board of trustees beginning at 7 p.m.

Berman noted there’s “nothing really huge” on the agenda, but “it’s a great opportunity for people to catch up on library business” and participate in the decision-making process that will ultimately shape the institution’s future.
