The Oxford High School Varsity Baseball team went 2-1 last week.
After securing wins against Everest Academy and Almont earlier in the week, the Cats stumbled and fell to Bloomfield Hills with a 9-1 score on April 13.
This loss contrasted with the team’s solid 9-1 win against Everest Academy the day before.
After posting eight runs in their last game on April 12, the Wildcat offense showed up to plate 9. The hitters were all very patient at the plate, drawing 11 base on balls.
Offense was once again led by junior Joey Miller. Miller went 2-3, double, 2 RBI’s, and a walk.
Six Wildcat hitters each collected one RBI: Gage Warzecha, Evan Brunning, Karson Ulatowski, Drew Carpenter, and Zakary Schwerin. Joey Miller had two RBI’s.
Sophomore Jesse Burch tallied his first varsity win in his young career. In his two innings of work, Burch struck out five while only walking one batter. Juniors Marcus Hale and Tyler Szczepanski each went two innings and struck out two. Carpenter threw the 7th inning, striking out one.
The Cats also beat Almont 8-2 on April 10, recording 14 hits on the bat.
Joey Miller led the way going 4 for 4, two runs scored and one RBI.
Carpenter and Zak Schwerin each added two hits.
Brunning, Shae Walters, Schwerin each collected a RBI while Warzecha plated two. Brunning picked up his first win of the season and threw three scoreless innings while collecting seven strike outs.
Walters and Ulatowski each went two innings and tallied two strikeouts.
The team is now 2-2 overall on the season.
Up next, the Cats will face the Clarkston Wolves during a double-header held on the home field starting at 4:30 p.m.
