Community members and veterans are once again invited to gather in Addison Township’s historic Lakeville Cemetery to honor all those servicemen and women who perished fighting in America’s wars.
The year’s Memorial Day observance, organized by the Lakeville Cemetery Auxiliary, will take place on Saturday, May 26. It’s scheduled to begin at noon, but folks are asked to please start gathering at 11:30 a.m.
Congressman Mike Bishop, a resident of Rochester, will be the guest speaker.
The Republican represents Michigan’s 8th Congressional District, which includes all of Ingham County, Livingston County and north Oakland County.
Bishop was elected to Congress in November 2014, after serving in the state Legislature from 1999 to 2010.
Per usual, vocal and instrumental musical performances will be part of the ceremony. They will be provided by the North Oakland Concert Band, Oxford Middle School choir students and Sarah Ashley.
Prayers, a reading, the placing of a memorial wreath, a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps” are also on the agenda.
A potluck lunch will follow. Please bring a dish to pass. Meat will be provided. Folks are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
Established in 1843, Lakeville Cemetery is located at 825 Drahner Rd., just east of Walker Rd.
