North Oakland VFW Post 334 was recognized as an All-State Post for the fiscal year 2017-2018 at the recently held Michigan Department VFW State Convention according to Post Commander James Hubbard.

Post Commander Jim Hubbard and Quartermaster Chuck Haskin each received a white cap in recognition of the post’s All-State achievement.

Hubbard was also named the Captain of the All-State team.

Post 334, established in 1984, received many awards including a banner for achieving 100 percent membership status. The post received a platinum Star Award plaque for support of the VFW National Home for Children, a plaque for first place in its division for its support of Young Marines and Boy Scouts and a State Recognition Folder recognizing Oxford Middle School teacher Jan Flynn as Teacher of the Year. Additional recognition’s included certificates for support of Cancer Research, Hospital Program, Community Service and Gold Star and Blue Star Mother’s Programs.

Hubbard wished to acknowledge the support and efforts of the post’s auxiliary group.

“Any outstanding post has an outstanding auxiliary,” he said. “They do so much for us . . . For every one project we do, they do two or three. They do many more projects than we do to support the community and support the veterans. I don’t have enough hands (in the post alone). I’ve got 160 members, but there’s only probably really 50 I can count on to do stuff. But I’ve got 80 (auxiliary members) that do everything. Without their help, I couldn’t do nearly as much.”

North Oakland VFW Post 334 meets the second Tuesday of every month at LakePoint Community Church located at 1550 W. Drahner Road in Oxford Township.

Starting at 6 p.m. the post and auxiliary meet socially to share a meal. At 7 p.m. the the Post and the Auxiliary hold their meetings in separate rooms which usually last about an hour-and-a-half.
