Joseph “Paleo Joe” Kchodl, an award-winning paleontologist, author and storyteller, visited the Addison Township Public Library on July 16 to share his extensive knowledge of dinosaurs and fossils.

He’s shown here displaying a replica of a pachycephalosaurus skull. Its skull was dome-shaped and quite dense – the roof of it could be up to 10 inches thick.

This dinosaur was a herbivore (plant-eater) that lived during the late Cretaceous period, which ended about 65 million years ago with the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.

Kchodl said pachycephalosaurus fossils are often found in the western United States, “normally, Montana.”

It’s believed they were approximately 15 feet long (from head to tail) and walked on two legs.
