Township OKs bid for Fire Station 3

• Contractor approved: After over two years in the planning stages, ground breaking for the Brandon Fire Station 3 is near.
“I’ll be glad to get this going,” said fire chief Bob McArthur after the recent approval by the township board for a contractor bid in the amount of $1,040,000.
More than 25 bids were submitted to win the contract for construction of Station 3 on Oakwood Road. Premacon Inc., of Southfield won the bid with lowest of the three-part bid package.
Township Clerk Jeannie McCreery said the bid was much lower than the township expected so the board accepted the two alternate bids, subject to availability of funds.
The additional secondary bid of $12,000 was for epoxy floor covering in the apparatus room. The final secondary bid of $8,000 was for a lightning protection system to be installed on the completed building.
Soil preparation will begin immediately, after the council’s approval.
Chief McArthur says the village council is the recommending board; the bids will also go before the council for approval on Monday, Nov. 11.
• CDBG public hearing: The board heard requests from eight organizations to consider allocating funds. The highest request of $15,000 came from the Ortonville Historical Society in order to further structural repairs on the Old Mill.
Recommendations for approval of allocations will be made a regularly scheduled township meeting.
