Duane Russell “Drãno” Thompson, of Oxford, passed in peace surrounded by family on Aug. 15, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 69.
Duane was born in Detroit and grew up in Royal Oak.
He was a proud graduate of Kimball High School and Oakland Community College. Duane married his high school sweetheart, Diane (Rothwell), in 1970.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1971. He had a lifelong career with the telephone company currently known as AT&T and was fondly remembered for his work pranks and wonderful sense of humor. Duane lived a beautiful life and has always been know for his caring, compassionate nature, his bear like strength, and for always being a hardworking man.
He was an incredible husband, father, and proud papa and will always be remembered for giving his best in all that he did. Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Dolores Thompson, his father-in-law, William Rothwell, his brother, Thane Thompson, and his brother-in-law, William Rothwell II.
He is survived by Diane, his wife of nearly 48 years; his sister, Doreen (David) Brunner; his inlaws Janine and Robert Charlton, Beth Rothwell, and Judi Thompson; his children Dana (Silvio) Giannetti, Danielle (Dan) St. Pierre, and Deanne Thompson; his grandchildren Isabella, Evan, and Christopher; and his loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home in Oxford. Funeral services were held Aug. 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation or American Cancer Society.
