Darryl Lee “Lucky” Winterton, Sr., 78, of North Branch and formerly of Leonard, died Monday, August 27, 2018. He was 78.

Darryl was born July 19, 1940 in Seattle, Washington to Doyle and June (Thrapp) Winterton. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. Darryl went on to work as a lineman for DTE Energy for many years as well as a truck driver for Coventry and JARO. Darryl loved sailing – he was gifted at building sail boats as well as a passionate participant in the Port Huron to Mackinac races.

Darryl is survived by his children: Debra Ellen Anderson of North Branch and Darryl Lee (Shelly) Winterton, Jr. of Clifford; three grandchildren: Kathleen Vannoy, Jordan (Janell) Winterton and Daniel Winterton; four great grandchildren: Haylie, Austin, Sophia and Markus; brother: Gary (Betty Russell) Winterton of Imlay City (formerly of Leonard). Darryl is also survived by his significant other, Janet Gerome of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his mother, June Saffel; father, Doyle Winterton and his son-in-law, Kenneth Anderson in 2011.

In keeping with Darryl’s wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paradise Animal Rescue, 2266 North Lapeer Road, Lapeer, Michigan 48446.
