After a few months of facing fierce competition, Oxford’s resident spikers were able to take two consecutive wins against tough teams.
Oxford ended the week on Oct. 4 with a victory over Seaholm after five grueling sets. Oxford started out the match being down 2-0 sets, but was able to make a comeback and take three consecutive sets from the Maples. The final three of the match sets went narrowly in Oxford’s favor 25-20, 26-24 and 15-9.
Head Coach Brian Kim said the match was a particularly exciting win for the team since it was so close. He also noted that his seniors were instrumental in the victory, which was the girls’ last home game wearing the Wildcat uniform.
“The night was made special by all five seniors contributing for the unforgettable win,” he said.”Anna Ibarra, Anna Peruski, Anna Trbovich, Alexia Kingham and McKenzie Miller all played critical roles in the victory!”
The game was also led by sophomores Emma LaBarge and Molly Miller, who contributed 13 and 10 kills respectively. Junior, co-captain and setter gave 34 assists, and co-captain McKenzie Miller took up 31 digs throughout the match.
The Wildcats were also able to capture a win in their first game of the week on Oct. 2 against Bloomfield Hills 3-0. Oxford took each set with wide margins of points scored, with the sets ending in 25-9, 25-22 and 25-19 respectively.
Kim said the win was led by offensive players Molly Miller and junior Sydney Richter, who contributed 11 and 10 kills, respectively. LaBarge also added six points to the board throughout the match.
As for assists,Weiss gave a whopping 27 throughout the night. McKenzie Miller put in hard work as well, keeping the ball alive for the Wildcats during the match with 21 digs.
The girls will take on Seaholm again along with other teams during an away tournament Oct. 20.
