Goodrich’s Shaw named coach of the year in Division 3

Goodrich ? Goodrich cross country coach John Shaw runs in winning circles.
Last Friday, he was named Coach of the Year in the Girls Cross Country Division III at the annual meeting of the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association.
On Nov. 1, the Martians won the Division 3 girls cross country state championship at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. ‘The girls had a fantastic year,? said Shaw.
Shaw, a long-time runner, still thrives on races. This summer, he competed in the Crim Festival of Races in Flint with Goodrich High School runners.
Being named Coach of the Year brings his running career full-circle.
‘It’s kind of an honor for me,? said Shaw, a long-time runner who also won an individual state championship and became a state record holder in the 1960s, along with coaching a state championship track team.
‘It’s kind of a big circle,? he said.
