Snow is dusting Mount Holly once again, and the girls’ ski team is itching to get back on the slopes. This season, they’ve got a division title on their minds.
“I’m hoping that we can win our division and win most of our races at Mount Holly,” said Seth Thompson, the head coach of the joint team between Oxford and Holly. “I’m also hoping that we can have a good day at the regional championship and go to state finals.”
Shaking off the warmth of the off season, Thompson and the ladies are working on the basics and getting used to being on the slopes again.
With a solid number of returners and a few new faces, the team is hopeful that they’ll be able to conquer their competition and make an appearance at the state finals.
“We’re just focusing on skiing right now and getting used to our equipment,” Thompson said.
Right now, the team’s two top players are Oxford-bred.
Jenna Stepek and McKenzie Nichols are both in their senior year at Oxford High Schol and are expected to perform well this season.
The team’s first competition is on Jan. 16 against Flushing and will be held at the team’s home venue of Mount Holly.
