Robert Clement Evans, of Punta Gorda, Florida, originally from Oxford, passed away Jan. 20, 2019. He was 96.
Robert, a 1941 graduate of Oxford High School and a longtime Oxford resident proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946.
He married a girl from Oxford, Jean Lillian Hall, in 1945. Bob and Jean were married for 59 years before Jean passed in 2004. Bob was also a member of the Freemason Oxford Masonic Lodge 84 and a Past Master.
After serving four years in the Marines, Bob and Jean returned to Oxford and built a home north of town and raised their four children.
After retiring from Fisher Body in 1981, Bob and Jean became snowbirds, traveling to Florida and spending their winters in Nokomis, Florida. Bob loved to keep busy and got his Real Estate license and Broker’s license in Florida.
After the passing of his wife, he continued to travel to Florida as a snowbird with a companion, eventually both becoming full time residents in Punta Gorda, Florida where Bob spent his final years.
Bob leaves behind his four children and their wives Richard and Gisela R.A. (Massow) Evans, Kerry and Pat (LaBombard/Fain) Evans, Dennis and Cathy (Juhl) Evans and Cyndi and son-in-law David Ahlborn. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean L. (Hall) Evans, his brother Leo Evans, and parents, Dow and Edith (Alger) Evans.
Robert, “Bob”, Dad, Grandpa will be greatly missed.
