Coming back from some tough, surprising losses last week, Oxford’s bowlers came back and defeated the Avondale and North Farmington teams this week.
On Feb. 4, both the boys and the girls hosted North Farmington at Collier Lanes. At the time, North Farmington was undefeated.
Though the boys started out close, they ended their match with a 1099-950 win. Colin Massie led the boys with 247 and 201 games. Luke Acton also bowled well with two 234 games, and Justin Powell and Zach Barrows had games of 224 and 216, respectively.
Like the boys, Oxford’s ladies also got off to a rough start against North Farmington. But, not too long after they had a wide 13-6 lead going into the final round and ultimately won the game.
During the first baker round, Claire Sandstrom, Grace Meyer and Mya Bruno led the Wildcats. In the later rounds, Meyer, Sandstrom and Lily Boothe were key athletes. Armbruster led the team overall with games of 207 and 193.
The night before on Feb. 3, both teams hosted Avondale. The girls left the match with a 30-0 win and the boys took a 29-1 win.
Leading the girls was Armbruster with a 240 game. Sandstrom picked up a 220 game and Meyer had a 195 game.
As for the boys, Tony Verbeke led with a 276 game. Following Verbeke was Acton with a 247 game, Massie with a 243 game, Austin Couch with a 268 game and Garrett Hill with a 239 game. In the first game, the boys scored the fifth-highest score in the state this season with a cumulative 1,163.
With the win, the boys also became the OAA Red champions for the season.
The girls are now 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the OAA red. The boys are also 5-0 in the OAA Red and are 8-1 overall. The boys will play next on Feb. 7 when they travel to Ferndale, and the ladies will face off against Lake Orion on Feb. 8 with the hopes of claiming to OAA Red title.
