Just a few months after Oxford Schools partnered with Graduation Alliance to help at-risk students get their high school diplomas, the district is celebrating its first graduate: Jack Sawyer.

Graduation Alliance is housed at Oxford Crossroads Day School and works with students in a personalized way to present Oxford curriculum in a way that best fits each student.

“We’re reaching out to students who had, for multiple reasons, not been successful in our traditional high school,” Superintendent Tim Throne said. “We started this up three months ago and Mr. Jack is our first graduate.”

Sawyer received his diploma from Oxford Board of Education President Tom Donnelly at the board’s Feb. 26 meeting at Oxford High School.

Sawyer was grinning from ear to ear as he shook hands with Donnelly and held his diploma.

Many board members extended their congratulations to Sawyer in this rite of passage accomplishment.

“As board president, I want to congratulate you,” Donnelly said as he and Sawyer shook hands.
