Two new Eagle Scouts took flight Sunday afternoon at Oxford United Methodist Church.

A dual Court of Honor ceremony was held for Logan Streeter and Lance Kennedy, both of whom earned the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program.

Both young men, members of Troop 366, have been involved in scouting since the first grade. Both achieved the rank of Tiger Cub on Feb. 24, 2008 and have been climbing the ladder together ever since.

Streeter told the audience he’s “gained so much from scouting,” including “valuable skills” such as how to build a fire and administer first aid.

But “more importantly,” he said the experience helped build his “character” by teaching him “patience” and the importance of devoting yourself to “helping others.”

“Through scouting I’ve made so many memories and friendships that will last a lifetime,” Streeter said. “I’m so grateful for everything scouting has done for me.”

Kennedy said scouting has given him “countless opportunities,” including becoming a certified scuba diver and participating in many “fun and unique camp-outs and outings.”

“The friendships I’ve made have had the biggest impact on me and would not have happened if it wasn’t for scouting,” he said. “I’ve had a pretty good 12 years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

One of the requirements to become an Eagle Scout is earning at least 21 of the 136 merit badges available.

Kennedy earned 40 merit badges while Streeter earned 37.

To attain the Eagle rank, scouts must also plan, develop and provide leadership for a service project that benefits a religious organization, school or community.

Both Kennedy and Streeter made improvements to the 16.9-mile Polly Ann Trail that runs through Addison, Oxford and Orion townships.

For his project, Kennedy coordinated the building and installation of seven dog waste bag dispensers along the trail earlier this year.

Last year, Streeter created a small rest area for trail users on a 0.16-acre parcel of vacant land in Oxford Village.

Since 1988, Troop 366 has produced 41 Eagle Scouts.
