After suffering back-to-back OAA losses to Lake Orion on Sept. 24 and Stoney Creek on Sept. 26, the Oxford Wildcats volleyball team was able to show progress during their tournament at Goodrich High School on Saturday, Sept. 28.

In their first match of the day, the girls made quick work of Lake Fenton High School, dispatching the Blue Devils in two-sets, 25-5, 25-9.

Riding this momentum, the girls were victorious in their second match as well. Facing the North Branch Broncos, Oxford once again handled business in two-sets, 25-16, 25-20.

The third matchup of the day, Farmington Hills Mercy, was as tough of a test as Oxford could have asked for. Ranked the No. 1 team in Division I by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association, the Marlins defeated Oxford in two-sets.

For what it’s worth, Oxford received honorable mention from the coaches association in the latest poll, falling just outside the top-10.

Finishing the day 2-2, the Wildcats ended the tournament with a three-set loss to the Utica Eisenhower Eagles. Oxford won the first set, 25-21, but dropped the final two, 25-22, 15-13.
