Long-time teacher Tucker passes

Around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oxford Community Schools announced long-time teacher, coach Gayle Tucker had passed.

“It is with extremely heavy hearts we share that last night our school community lost long-time teacher, colleague, coach, and friend Gayle Tucker. Gayle passed away at home in the company of her dear family as she lost her battle with cancer,” the district’s Facebook page stated.
She retired in June from teaching Physical Education at Oxford Middle School after serving Oxford Community Schools for 40 years. “Words cannot describe how deeply her loss will be felt across our district, she will be greatly missed,” the posting stated.

Commuting patterns mapped

On Monday the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) released its Commuting Patterns map.
According to a press release, the online map provides “quick and easy understanding of the travel-to-work patterns of the region’s workforce for all communities in Southeast Michigan for 2016 and 2010.”
The data presented in the map is based on Census Transportation Planning Products (CTPP) tabulations of the Census Bureau’s five-year American Community Survey (ACS) data. Data for 2010 represents 2006-2010 five-year CTPP data; data for 2016 is from 2012-2016 five-year CTPP data.
Locally in 2016, there were 8,395 workers living in Oxford Township; 2,810 living in Addison. There were 4,605 workers in Oxford Township, 1,227 lived locally. In Addison Township, there were 555 workers, 297 of those lived in the township.
In both communities, the Number One destination of commuters was to the city of Auburn Hills. Commuters from Oxford going to Auburn Hills was 1,081; 364 from Addison Township.
