If all goes well, construction crews will finish their work on the west side of the Drahner Rd./M-24 intersection, and the intersection will completely re-open to traffic by 3 p.m. tomorrow, July 2. That means west Drahner traffic will no longer have to go all the way around, via the Glaspie St. detour.
M-24 remains closed to northbound traffic from Drahner Rd. to Gateway Dr. Northbound traffic will continue to be detoured through Glaspie St. as it turns into N. Oxford Rd, then west on Ray Rd. back to M-24. Southbound M-24 traffic remains one-lane-only.
The next major closures will be at the Burdick/M-24 intersection in downtown. The east Burdick intersection will close for a couple days in mid-July to do underground work. MDOT project engineer Brian Travis estimates this might be done the weekend of July 11 and 12.
Later on, the intersection will close for 14 consecutive days. No date has been set for this closure yet.
Sidewalk removal in the Downtown is in the planning process, but no date has been provided when that work will begin. Special attention is being given to this area because of the historic buildings.
All construction on M-24 will cease at 3 p.m. July 2 in observance of Independence Day. Work will resume at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 6.
The project, which began in April, is on track to finish in November.
