U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) visited several essential businesses in Oxford last Tuesday, Aug. 11, to learn about their operations and the challenges they face during the COVID-19 crisis.
Slotkin said these businesses have shown “tremendous fortitude during this pandemic.”
First, she visited Vaughn Custom sports at 550 S. Glaspie St. In April, the hockey equipment manufacturer shifted to making personal protective equipment (reusable gowns and caps) for healthcare providers.
The congresswoman then visited CAM Logic at 650 S. Glaspie St., a design and engineering technology firm specializing in 3D printers that transitioned to printing headbands for face shields.
Vaughn Custom Sports and CAM Logic, Inc. both secured federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans.
“Our businesses are facing the compounding challenges of being unable to operate at capacity, while needing to adapt to changing markets,” Slotkin wrote in a statement about her visit. “Their resilience is a testament to the ingenuity and grit that makes American businesses so strong, and a reminder that we need to do everything we can to support them during this crisis.”
She was accompanied by Oakland County Commissioner Michael Spisz (R-Oxford). They also stopped by Apothecary & Co., a retail pharmacy downtown, and had lunch from 24th Street Sports Tavern.
