After seven and a half months of construction and over a year since preliminary utility work began, the M-24 reconstruction project is wrapping up for this year. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, all four lanes of traffic between Drahner Rd. and Gateway Dr. will be reopened and back to normal Friday, Dec. 4. That includes the lanes of northbound traffic, which has been detoured through Glaspie St. throughout the project.
There are some punch list items leftover for next week, as permanent signs and signals are put back to normal and MDOT ensures traffic barrels, temporary signs and barricades are removed before winter. Crews will be back in the spring to touch up the new streetscape downtown and paint permanent road markings.
The project was previously scheduled to finish Nov. 15, but was rescheduled to finish in “early December” due to delays in installing storm sewer.

First, I’m greatful for all the updates on M-24 that were done. Oxford wants to grow but not make enough provisions for growth. Much traffic will detour around any areas of, not safe left turns, not enough length for traffic build up for left turns at light, much time wasted in sitting traffic. All the tax money that went into this update will have to be done again. All homes on My24 when sold will turn into businesses. Still more development for Oxford Village, and Township is being done and planning more but yet the road will not properly handle the traffic. All the input from the people, the counsel, the Dpw, the businesses, the designers etc., etc. and everyone knew and know that this development was not enough. Poor planning to achieve a proper goal. Now more tax dollars will be needed to make a proper road to safely handle traffic and drivers to want to stop at our businesses to see what we have to offer. Not to avoid.
