Oxford resident Richard James Mason passed away peacefully on Saturday March 13, 2021. He was 66. Rick was born on December 25, 1954, in Pontiac, MI.
Rick had been bravely battling ALS, since August of 2019. His spirits were kept high by his family and friends, but especially by the littlest loves of his life, his grandbabies. Rick had an immense love for his family, but especially for the love of his life, his wife Debbie Dee, who cared for him every day of his courageous battle.
There were never “strangers” around when he was there, and there was never a person that he couldn’t strike up a conversation with. Rick retired from AT&T after nearly 40 years, and many coworkers became wonderful friends there. He loved his retirement “jobs” also — driving school buses for Clarkston Schools, and befriending residents and staff at Pomeroy Living in Lake Orion, as an activities driver.
Rick is survived by his love Debbie, Son Brian and daughter-in-law Beth (Mason), his daughter Sara and son-in-law Joe (DiGiglio), his bonus daughter Danielle Wesley, his grandchildren Kiley, Nadia, Raegan, Yvonne, and Miles, and his bonus grandkids Jacob and Jaxon. He is also survived and loved by his sisters Sandy (Roy) Hensley, Patty Lara, Becky (Jim) Kabana, and his many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents William (Jimmy) Mason, Lorraine (Tooty) Dooling, and his sister Joanne Harbert.
Rick has made an impact on countless lives and will be missed beyond measure. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you please make a donation to ALS of Michigan, so that one day he may be able to help other pALS, and maybe help find a cure for ALS. There will be a private service by invitation, and a celebration of life at a later date to be determined. Memorials may be made to ALS of Michigan.
