The Oxford High School Equestrian Team won the title of reserve champion at the Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association’s Region E competition at Ingham County Fairgrounds Oct. 1-3.
“They did very well,” said Head Coach Dee Shepard. “We have a very young team. We put a lot of pressure on them and they came through most of the time.”
Winning second place qualifies the riders to compete in various horseback events alongside some 40 teams from across the state in the state championship at the Midland County Fairgrounds Oct. 14-17. Prior to regionals, the team won first place at the District 2 championship.
The team earned reserve state champion in 2018 after winning back-to-back state championships in 2016 and 2017.
