An estimated 200 runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes kicked off a chilly morning race outside the Oxford 7 theater on Sunday, Feb. 6. Organized by the Infinite Multisport Triathlon Club, the Oxford run was the last leg in a fundraising triathlon for the 42Strong Foundation, a foundation set up by the Myre family to provide mentorships to student athletes ages 10-18. Participants were asked to donate $1 per 100 meters/yards swam on Friday, Feb. 4, $1 per mile cycled on Saturday, Feb. 5 and $2 per mile run on Sunday. The goal was to raise $48,000 and over $33,700 was raised by Monday morning. Participants had three routes to choose from including a 5k loop taking them out to Oxford Lakes and back though Glaspie St., a second 5k loop with a backbone along Pontiac St. and a 4.2 mile loop consisting of the first 5k and a circuit around some village homes west of Washington St. Triathlons are a race consulting of consecutive swimming, cycling and running segments. Olympic triathlons swim for about one mile, cycle 25 miles and run just over six miles, while Ironman triathlons swim for about 2.5 miles, cycle 112 miles and run a full-length marathon (26.2 miles.)
