It’s time to stretch and get your legs ready for Oxford Township Park & Recreation’s annual Turkey Trot 5K run/2k walk, slated for Nov. 12 at Seymour Lake Township Park. The race starts at 10 a.m.

The Turkey Trot is a fun, family and community focused event,” Lauren Smith

Recreation Supervisor said. “We offer 11 categories for male and female racers.”

The 2k walk is for all ages and the 5k run is for runners from elementary age up to 70 and up runners.

According to Smith this is the 33rd year the parks has hosted the event. “In 2001 we asked Meijer for their sponsorship and as far as I can tell they have generously sponsored the event each year since then – each year they provide frozen turkeys for the winners.”

The run/walk starts and ends at the south end of the park, at the Lailder Pavillion. The 2k walk will follow the park’s drive and the 5k runners will traverse a course throughout the park.

In the past we’ve had entire families participate, the race setting provides a safe and competitive environment for all ages to compete,” Smith said. “Plus, winning a turkey for your family’s Thanksgiving meal has bragging rights written all over it.”

Turkeys will be awarded to the first place male and female runners in each division.

Pre-registration forms are available at the parks’ website, OxParkReck.org ($10) or on-site before the race for $15. For more information call 248-628-1720.
