Village police in September
Oxford Village Police Chief Mike Solwold’s report for Sept. 2022 showed the department responded to 488 calls for service. This was down 170 calls from Sept. 2021. His report also showed officers gave out 13 less citations/warnings than in 2021 – from 406 to 393 this year. The only increase the department dealt with were accidents. In 2021 there were only two reported accidents in the village; this year there were seven.
This September the top three infractions drivers were cited for in the village were speeding (122), stop signs (51) and red light (49).
Year to date, village police have responded to 496 more calls for service than in 2021 – 5,966 calls compared to 6,462 this year. From January through September last year the department gave out 3,681 citations/warnings; this year, 3,560. So far this year there have been 27 more accidents in the village, 67 this year, 40 last year.
Maloney Bridge pushed back, again
The completion estimate on the $2.54 million Maloney Street Bridge project has been pushed back for the third time. It was originally slated to be completed this month. Then is completion was pushed to early November. According to a press release from the Road Commission For Oakland County, the project will now be completed by late November. The project was started July 5. Here’s what the project consists of: Replacement of the Maloney Avenue bridge over Long Lake/Clear Lake; reconstruction of one-tenth of a mile of Maloney Avenue with asphalt pavement (work is about 300 feet north and south of the bridge); and upgrading guardrails and traffic signs.
Christmas Parade plans in action
The Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce announced this year’s Christmas parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 3, starting at 1 p.m. This year’s theme is an “Olde Fashioned Christmas.” The Chamber is also starting to register parade entries and looking for sponsors. Annual Fall luncheon & crafts
Immanuel Congregational Chruch will host their Fall Luncheon on Nov. 12. Their crafting group, Immanuel Craft Capades will offer homemade crafts and SERRV products, including bottle crafts, wreaths, Christmas decorations and more. Hot and cold entrees, salads, beverages, and desserts will be served buffet style and cost $10 a person. Carry out is available. Proceeds will be used to make repairs to their bell tower and the purchase of enhanced worship equipment for vision impaired guests and members, as well as those with autism spectrum disorder.
