The links were kind to Oxford High School junior Keira Billis. Last Friday, the Wildcat golfer received an honorable mention to the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association’s All State team.
According to ‘Cat coach Gretcher Gabler Billis is only the second Oxford golfer to receive the honor since the MIGCA has been involved in the sport. Kyla Kurczewski was the other Wildcat to receive the honor and that was in 2012.
“I’m so proud of Keira. She is an amazing athlete and one of the kindest people I know,” Gabler said. “Keira gives her best at every practice and competition! I am lucky to be her coach and watch how she handles the highs and lows of golf and life. I’m thrilled she is a junior and we will have 1 more year of golf together.”
According to Gabler, golfers’ scores and placement in tournaments are used to determine all-state status.
“Being named as an All State honorable mention just adds to how special this season was,” Billis said. “I’m so grateful to have the best teammates and coach who helped me learn and grow throughout the season. Beyond excited to see what this team does next year.”
