About 30 people showed up at the NES Plumbing, Heating & Cooling last week for good cheer and to watch the official lighting of the Larry Obrecht Bridge over N. Washington Street. This was the third year in a row that the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted the bridge-lighting event.
Chamber Executive Director Amy Desotell thanked those in attendance and sponsors for keeping the bridge’s lights on all holiday season, Oxford Bank, Genisys Credit Union, Excel Cleaning Bros. and NES Plumbing Heating & Cooling.
The chamber had to get approval from the Oxford Village Police, Oxford Village Council, the Department of Natural Resources, the Polly Ann Trail group and the Michigan Department of Transportation before they could light the bridge and hang the banner.
The Larry Obrecht Bridge connects the Polly Ann Trail’s Oakland County segments as it crosses over Washington St. at the north end of the Village of Oxford and is open to foot and bike traffic. Named after the former county commissioner, the bridge cost $2 million to build.
