Honor Community Health rescinds health clinic offer

The Leader has confirmed this morning that Honor Community Health (HCH) has rescinded their proposal to operate a health care clinic in Oxford High School.

HCH withdrew its offer late Monday afternoon, a day before a town hall meeting was slated to take place. As of 10:30 Tuesday morning, calls to HCH have yet to be returned. The town hall meeting has been cancelled.

At the last two Oxford school board meetings (April 11 and April 25) both Todd Barlass, executive director of School Services and Wellness, and Honor’s Jeff Cook made presentations. At both meetings members of the audience expressed their concerns of Oxford Community Schools housing a government-funded health care clinic. The district and HCH have been planning for a clinic since October 2021. Original plans for a clinic open to the community were scrapped last fall, following concerns of student safety as the clinic would have open access to the outside. — Don Rush
