A vacant house near the intersection of Oakwood and Hosner roads is still standing thanks to the quick response of Addison Township firefighters.

On the morning of Aug. 15, firefighters were called to 4931 Hosner Rd. after the next-door neighbor called 9-1-1 to report a fire.

“On our arrival, there (was) smoke and flames visible from the road,” said Assistant Fire Chief Dan Cline.

According to Cline, the fire was “mainly contained” to a bathroom on the second floor “with minor extension into the attic space above it.”

“We knocked the flames down within minutes and then we did some pretty extensive overhaul looking for fire extension throughout the attic area,” he said.

Cline called it “a great stop” and noted it was accomplished with “limited manpower on arrival.”

“When we (started) flowing water, there were only three people on scene,” he said. “One engine company, basically, knocked it down. Once our manpower started arriving, then we were doing overhaul on it.”

The fire is still under investigation, but Cline said it appears as though “it was more than likely accidental,” possibly the result of “faulty wiring.”

“That’s the last I heard,” the assistant chief said on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters from Oxford, Orion, Oakland and Metamora townships assisted at the scene. Dryden firefighters covered Addison’s main station in case other fire-related calls came in, while Rochester Hills firefighters covered the department’s medical calls.
